Suggestions

I have just started working at Hastings, I also have just found out that my mid-term grades are not so hot either. (Not in this class though) I need help deciding if I should keep the job for a while longer and see if things change or if I should quit so I can really focus on school. I am open to any suggestion.

Felicia, I would encourage you to do a few things before you make a decision. The first thing would be to look at your schedule overall. If you roughed out a schedule for say next week - in advance what hours are you working and what hours are you in class? Now, how much time is left and when is it? Do you feel like it is adequate time, if you are disciplined, to include enough study time in the schedule?

Knowing WHEN you have study time/hours available is essential so this time doesn't slip away without you using it efficiently.

After looking at your schedule I would then determine which classes need the most attention. I would approach those professors and ask for SPECIFIC feedback on what you can do to do better in their class - even asking for suggestions on HOW you might prepare or do better in their class.

Having a clearer picture of exactly what you need to do and if you have time to be able to accomplish it should lead to do I have time for a job.

If the things you need to do for your coursework are too time demanding THEN perhaps the job has to go OR the amount of time you work.

Be certain to include enough time for REST.

Often times people feel as if they don't have enough time to do everything simply because they do not plan and organize well. They allow life to control them instead of having an intentional plan and controlling life.

Perhaps other students can also offer suggestions on how they manage their time, study for some of the specific classes with which you are struggling and perhaps even offer to assist in some way.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to support you.

Well I have always had to work throughout college... it's never really been an option for me, but I think if you work on managing your time you can be successful in your schoolwork. It's definitely hard to do, but possible. I know that it is difficult, but it will all be worth it one day. I don't know maybe you could just cut back on your hours at work. I'm sure you'll make the best decision for you.

I would wait on quitting your job. I worked two jobs over the summer to save enough so I wouldn't have to work throughout the school year. Even though I have the money, I'm going back to work because I am bored. I need something other than school to occupy my time, I feel almost useless. Even though it seems like it would be great, not having a job is not as fun as it seems. I'm working again and am much happer. I might just be crazy, lol, but really think about it before you quit.

I know how you feel. I baby-sitt 20 hours a week, go to school full-time and have 40 observation hours that I must complete by the end of the semester. I would encourage you to wait though. As time goes on, you begin to get yourself in the routine of things. You are not used to this, and therefore you feel like you cannot handle it. Once you get used to things and your schedule becomes routine, your grades will more than likely go up. You will know exactly how much time you will have to dedicate school in order for your grades to increase.
