Possible sign language??

Ok so I am about to map out my schedule for my next semesters classes and after last nights class I just felt like sign language would be super helpful to me if I could learn it, If any of you can sign, please leave me feed back about whether or not I should consider this, how difficult is it? Would I learn enough in just a few semesters of ASL?

I am taking ASL 1 right now under Nina Coyer.
At first it’s a little confusing but after a couple of class’s you will catch on.

Hey!! I've taken asl, i love it and nina is a great teacher- she's deaf so it forces you to learn, it takes commitment, but i loved it. I def. think you should take it!!

I am obviously biased since I have been signing since I was 13 and I'm now 46! I truly believe signing is of benefit to you.

I personally LOVE it. I LOVE to sign PERIOD. I love to sign at church. I interpret one of our three services on the weekend. I love to sign when I'm places where I can't talk but want/need to communicate. There are tons of benefits. I've often taught signing classes - to parents, to children, at church, etc.

But, I want to be realistic. It requires you to USE it or it will be difficult to learn or maintain it - just like any other language. It can be a challenge. You will have to study and practice or you will not be able to learn it. It's not something you can "cram" for and do well.

Yet, I would strongly encourage every educator who is going into special education to take at least 1 or 2 semesters. I think it will be of great benefit to you and ultimately to the students you will serve. I'd love to see you fall in love with the language and ultimately decide you want to teach students who are d/Deaf and hard of hearing.

I believe I have lots of students in this class who will make phenomenal caring, passionate educators - - so of course I'd love to see the d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing kids of the future have you as teachers!

I've taken ASL and enjoyed it. I didn't really know anything going into the class but it's pretty easy to pick up on!

I would advise it, at the very least as an introduction to the language.
