BIG REQUEST

I am making a MAJOR REQUEST!!! When you get ready to create a post PLEASE read through the other posts on the blog FIRST. IF there is another post with the same topic and ESPECIALLY the exact same title then simply COMMENT on that post. Do NOT create a new post about the EXACT SAME THING!

Use your PRAGMATIC skills and MAINTAIN THE TOPIC. Simply click on comment and type your post in the comment area. You get the same credit for a comment as you do for a post. The UGLY side of me is tempted to NOT give credit for posts that are duplicate new posts that are more appropriately placed as COMMENTS to an existing post.

Remember, COMMENTS DO COUNT AS POSTS FOR POINTS and they actually create more of a conversation or stream of thought - the purpose of a blog - - - to create dialogue. It's not to be a listing of one liners simply to gain points. I'm amazed at the benefit students have gained when they determine to meaningfully connect with their peers to exchange purposeful information.

Ok. I just want to make sure that I understand correctly about the blog points. If we comment on a blog we don't get blog points but if we post a new blog topic that is how we obtain our points. I was just a little confused. I thought we got points for commenting and for posting a new blog topics. Sorry about my confusion.

Katie Jo,

You are correct. You DO get points for COMMENTING as well as posting a new post.

What this original post is about is that "I feel" like students do not read all of the posts and create a post that is the exact same post as another and it SHOULD BE A COMMENT to another post - it is the exact same topic.

This class focuses on appropriate and effective use of LANGUAGE. The blog is another venue for language use - - appropriate use of the blog is knowing how to MAINTAIN A TOPIC and when it is appropriate to START A NEW TOPIC.

I was being UGLY when I said I felt like NOT GIVING POINTS when people ignore other posts - don't read and just jump on the blog and post a new post to get their points and post the exact same topic as another. IF THEY HAD READ OTHER PEOPLE'S IDEAS they would have commented on someone else's post instead of duplicating the topic by creating a new post with the same idea.

I'll stick with what I said about points in the beginning and give people points for comments or new posts - regardless of their effective use of the blog.

I will ask in class again for people to consider how to more effectively do this.

I think we get points no matter how we blog. Mrs. White is just wanting to keep some of the same topics in one confined area so that she does not have to read the same new post from everyone. I usually just try to find something interesting to reply to. I do hope everyone had a safe halloween and a restful fall break. I would offer for someone to ride with me for the field trip but I live in Somerset so I don't know if that would help anyone out or not. If it does just let me know. See everyone in class on Monday.
