Sincere Question - Interested in Your Opinion

Just curious as to your opinion . . . Do you think an instructor/professor should prepare for the class he or she teaches - or come to class and decide upon arrival what to do that day/evening?

Do you think a student should have to PREPARE for a class in order to be able to make a good grade in the class? How much time do you think a student should have to put in to a class OUTSIDE of the class in order to be able to do well? What type of activity do you think is practical or reasonable to expect students to do on a weekly basis to prepare for a class in order to make the class time a richer learning opportunity?

I believe both students and professors should prepare for class before arriving to class. I also believe that students are respsonsible for their own learning and if they do not properly prepare, they should be prepared for the consequences (in this case it would be a low grade) and they should not complain or try and "quick fix" their grade with extra credit.

I feel that both the professor and the student need to come to class prepared and ready to learn from one another. Many times both the students and professors dont take the time to understand where each other are coming from (this doesnt include you Mrs. White). Sometimes professors put up too high of an expectation as far as how much a student will need to work in their class. The student at times could have 18 to 21 hours they are juggling and putting in all that work for one class can be tough. I just feel that professors and students need to do a better job at working together to make the best of the classes they are in.

I agree that both students and professors have to tag team in order to make it through the class. It is the students responsibility to complete what is asked of them before coming to class to be able to participate with the content. The professor obviously needs to prepare before coming to class so that they can accurately teach what needs to be taught in the time frame that they have. It is okay however, if the professor decides at the last minute to incorporate something new and helpful in with the lesson that would be content related or beneficial or interesting to the students. If there is no effort by the student it will obviously result in their grade. If their is no effort with the professor, then it will obviously result in poor grades across the board for more than 1/2 the class. Therefore students need to work together and with their professor to get what they want out of the class, including an appropriate grade that they deserve! :)

I do belive that both should come prepared. It is also understandable that everyday life problems may interfere with this, but it is how you handle it that counts, and that you learn from your mistakes. I belive that you Mrs. White are the most prepared professor that I have had, you are great!
