No one is posting blogs about Monday nights field trip so I'll start event though we have class tonight. I thought that Joe was a fascinating little boy who displayed all three types of Echolalia that we discussed in class, immediate-delayed-and mitigated.
I really enjoyed the field trip. I love have hands on stuff when you can actually see and get o better understand of what is being taught.

I agree, it was cool to actually get out of the classroom and actually see the things that we have been learning about in action. Joe was quite an interesting character, I thought it was important to note that though he always has two or three books with him at all times, he just repeats different parts that he has heard read to him. Obviously he is not understanding what is being read, he is just repeating what he has heard, He indeed demonstrates all three different types of Echolalia and he is indeed a fascinating child.
Yes Joe would benefit from a lot of the resources that the Center offered. I really have learned a lot, and I am using those model students as examples in our exam!
I have to say that I think that joe may be trying to demonstrate his understanding by repeating what he heard. He may not be able to speak in a way that shows his competence so he repeats what he does understand. It is a form of communication to me.
