Everyone in class receives this booklet FREE. It is a GREAT way for you to see how the components of language that we are discussing are essential in teaching students to read. We have discussed how these develop in a child's spoken language. The book will show you how the various components of syntax and semantics are so important in developing reading skills.
You have to do NOTHING with the booklet. However, if you WANT you have the opportunity to use it to earn bonus points.
What you will do is you will choose either syntax or semantics. You will read through the book using the Double Note Entry form. On the left hand side make notes - you do not have to copy entire paragraphs or EVERY one. You will choose what you believe are the MAIN ideas or key points. You might put the beginning of a phrase and the page number on the left. On the right side then put a reflection of what we have learned about that idea in class, an activity we have done, a personal reflection or a connection you have with that to the real world. The number of points will be determined by your effort, the amount of information you provide up to 20 points.

Mrs. White,
When is this chance at extra points due? I did not receive a copy, because I had to leave early last night and was wondering if I will get one next Monday.
Just wanted to say thanks for the books. I went home and looked through them and found them extremely interesting. I will keep this is my pile of resources to look back to one day. Even though I don't need the extra credit, thanks for the option!
Yes, Jackie. You're welcome to pick up one next week. It's truly an OPTION - not required.
Jenna, I'm glad you found the book interesting. I truly believe they will be a valuable resource for you in the future.
Mrs. White,
Thanks for all the opportunities. Even though I am happy with my score, it never hurts to do all I can to maintain the grade. I found the book to be very interesting and have stock-piled it into my collection of resources.
Because I will need time to grade these before the Language Projects come rolling in these will be due by December 8th.
I thought the book was really neat and I always love books that use color and pictures...lol! Besides who would ever turn down a book, but then I grew up with books being a big deal within my family. Building your own collection is nice; so that you dont have to always run to the library everytime you have a question. But I never have enough bookcases, lol thats life though. =D
